Smarter Cooling, Maximum Uptime: Inside Our Fully Engineered Data Centre Cooling Control System
In modern data centres, power gets a lot of attention — but cooling is where reliability is either made or broken.
Small fluctuations in temperature, unexpected load spikes, or failures in legacy cooling controls can all lead to the same outcome: risk to uptime. That’s why we’ve delivered a fully engineered cooling control system designed from the ground up to guarantee consistent SLA performance and safeguard data centre operations.
Uptime isn’t a nice-to-have. In a critical environment, it’s everything.
A Cooling Control System Built for Critical Environments
Our new deployment combines precision engineering with end-to-end control, giving operators full visibility of, and confidence in, their cooling infrastructure.
Key components include:
⚙️ 8 custom-built control panels
Tailored to the site architecture, these panels orchestrate all cooling assets, manage sequences, and enforce operating logic aligned with SLA requirements. Each panel is engineered for resilience, maintainability, and straightforward integration with existing systems.
🌡 87 SLA-grade temperature sensors
Distributed throughout the facility, these sensors provide granular, real-time monitoring of critical zones — white space, plant areas, and key thermal hotspots. The accuracy and density of these sensors enable early detection of anomalies and tight temperature control.
🧊 Integration of 40 cooling units
From CRAC/CRAH units to other cooling assets, all 40 units are integrated into a unified control strategy. This ensures co-ordinated operation, balanced load sharing, and the ability to optimise performance as conditions change.
Every element has been designed, tested, and commissioned to support:
- Stable operations under varying IT loads
- Predictive insights powered by rich operational data
- Long-term reliability with clear pathways for maintenance and expansion
Why Cooling Intelligence Matters More Than Ever
Data centres are under simultaneous pressure to:
- Increase capacity
- Improve energy efficiency
- Meet strict SLAs
- Reduce unplanned downtime
Traditional, reactive approaches to cooling simply don’t keep up. Our solution addresses this directly by bringing together:
- Precise metering – so operators know exactly what’s happening at both electrical and mechanical levels
- Deep power quality intelligence – to understand the impact of power events on cooling infrastructure
- High-availability cooling control – with redundancy and failover logic designed for mission-critical environments
Together, this enables our client to:
- Optimise energy usage
Fine-grained control and real-time feedback allow continuous optimisation of cooling setpoints and strategies, reducing energy waste while maintaining temperatures within tight SLA bands. - Protect critical equipment
Stable thermal conditions extend the lifespan of IT hardware and mechanical systems, reducing the risk of thermal stress and unplanned failures. - Maintain SLA compliance
With comprehensive monitoring and alarm strategies, deviations from target conditions are detected and addressed before they become incidents. - Reduce operational risk
Standardised, engineered control logic reduces reliance on manual interventions and one-off workarounds, improving consistency and lowering the likelihood of human error. - Improve environmental efficiency
Smarter cooling directly supports sustainability goals by cutting unnecessary energy consumption and improving overall PUE.
